Robert “Punky” Poehls, 71, a resident of Barnesville, MN passed away at Fargo VA hospital on Friday, April 27, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Eaves officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville, MN.  Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.  Robert John Poehls was born November 28, 1946 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Robert and Beverly (Tuski) Poehls Sr. He grew up in Barnesville, graduating from Barnesville High School with the Class of 1965. Robert served his military duty for the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War Era.  After serving in the military, he returned home and worked in construction. Punky also worked for local farmers.  On December 21, 1991 he was united in marriage with Mary Lamb in Barnesville, MN. He then worked for Drayton Foods Inc., in Fargo, and later Trans Systems in Moorhead for 8 years. Punky retired in 2010 from Trans Systems. Punky especially enjoyed fishing with neighbors and buddies.  He took pleasure in watching NASCAR racing, Minnesota Vikings and truly enjoyed the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. Punky was known for his kind heartedness, always willing to help anyone, and his quiet smile. Punky was an active member of the Barnesville V.F.W. and former member of Barnesville American Legion. Punky is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two sisters: Gloria (Duane) Engebretson of Perham, MN and Lois Griffin of Valley City, ND; his mother-in-law Josie Lamb of Barnesville; two stepsons: Tony Kara of West Plains, MO and Tom Kara of Mechanicsburg, OH; two step-granddaughters: Keyarra (Jacob) Smith and Mallory Kara; and his great-grandchildren. His Uncle George (Priscilla) Poehls; two aunts: Dorothy (Glen) Brown and Betty (Kenneth) Lasneski; a nephew Mike Wagner, a niece Pam (Troy) Stoetzer; great niece, Kaylee Stoetzer and great nephews, Brendan Stoetzer and Michael Wagner; and his faithful companions: Buddy and Jazzie also survive him. Punky was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beverly Poehls Sr.; his grandparents: John & Stella Poehls, and Charles & Emma Tuski; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
