Tammy (Cook) Hines

March 12, 1965 — December 26, 2018

Tammy Hines, 53, passed away on December 26, 2018, finally at peace, with her husband and family at her side in Portland, OR.   She was the beloved wife and best friend of her soul mate, Bryan Hines, married for 25 years; devoted and loving mother to Christian Hines and Isaiah Hines, both of the home, and treasured daughter to her mother, Sharon Cook.   Tammy was preceded in death by her father Duane and her younger brother Steve.

A memorial service to celebrate her life and her legacy will be held 2:00 PM, January 5, at the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church in Milwaukie, OR.

A memorial service will also be held 11:00 AM, January 12, 2019 at the Baker Downer Westminster Presbyterian Church in Baker, MN.

Tamera Jo Cook was born on March 12, 1965 in Moorhead, MN.  She attended Barnesville High School, graduating in 1983.  She graduated with a degree in Interior Design from the University of Minnesota, and went on to work with several accomplished design firms, most recently as a Senior Designer with the Erdenberger Design Group.  She married Bryan Hines on June 12, 1993 in Sioux Falls, SD. They spent their honeymoon traveling to various Grateful Dead shows, and followed them west to Portland OR to live, where they continued their love of music, hiking and travels throughout their lives, inspiring that same joy of music and friendship with their sons and numerous friends.

While we all feel a sense of loss in our lives with her passing, please don't cry because she is gone; instead be happy that she was here and part of your life.  Or maybe you can cry a little bit – she will be greatly missed.  She has been released from her pain and suffering and we pray that she is happily dancing in heaven.   ‘There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night.  And if you go, no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone.’ - Robert Hunter

Tammy was a dedicated member of the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church in Milwaukie, OR and relied heavily on the support of her life-long best friend Deb Snyder, Pastor Katie Pate, members of the church, and a vast network of family, friends and neighbors who supported her and her family during her illness.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the American Cancer Society or the Legacy Hopewell House Hospice in Portland, OR, in her honor.

‘When they come to take you down, when they bring that wagon around, when they come to call on you and drag your poor body down.  Just one thing I ask of you, there’s just one thing for me, please forget you knew my name, my darlin' Sugaree‘. - Robert Hunter
