Virginia Ann Kava

Virginia “Ginny” Kava, 68, of Barnesville, MN died on Saturday, September 9, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, MN at 11:00 am with Fr. Todd Arends presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will follow at St. Mary’ Catholic Cemetery.

Virginia Ann Kava, known as Ginny to family and friends, was born on November 25th, 1955, in Baudette, MN, to Adrian and Margaret Lager. She spent her early childhood years there before moving to Thief River Falls, MN where she graduated with the Class of 1975 from Thief River Falls High School.

Following graduation, she worked at a local nursing home before moving to Moorhead, MN, where she began working at Ole’s Nursery. She attended Moorhead Tech where she earned a certificate in welding in 1984. She also spent a number of years working as a custodian at NDSU.

On March 5, 1988, she married Raymond Kava in Fargo, ND. They began their married life in Christine, ND, eventually moving to Barnesville, MN in 1995. Ginny worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Barnesville for 3 years.

In her free time Ginny enjoyed growing and tending to a variety of flowers. She adored her pets which over the years included cats, dogs, squirrels, geese, and even peacocks. She and Ray also hatched a wide variety of birds including turkeys, peacocks, ducks, and Guinea fowl.

Ginny is survived by her devoted husband Raymond; one child, Madison (Sara) Kava; granddaughter Amaria; siblings: Tom (Karen) Lager, Gary (Carol) Lager, Curtis (Maria) Lager, Martin (Maggie) Lager, John (Linda) Lager, Mary (Michael) Perri, Mathew (Melinda) Lager, and Christopher (Monee) Lager.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Danny Lager, and sister Cathy Merken.
